The Chrome Dinner has been an important event on the South African chrome industry calendar since its inaugural dinner in 2013. Created as a platform to bring together chrome producers, smelters, suppliers, service providers, industry leaders and other stakeholders across the value chain, the event recognises the people and organisations contributing to the sector.

The 2026 event marked the fifth South African Chrome Dinner and the first since 2019, following disruptions following the pandemic, global uncertainty and economic pressures. The event was a celebration of the resilience of the chrome industry and those who contribute to its development year on year. The Chrome Awards 2026 recognised achievements across service, safety, environmental responsibility, social contribution, and industry leadership.

RTG's three awards recognise different aspects of the group's contribution to the chrome and ferrochrome industry:

Best Service Provider Award

This attendee-nominated award recognises RTG as a service provider that has made a notable contribution through the quality of its service.

Corporate and Social Responsibility Award

RTG was recognised for its outstanding contribution to social upliftment through community, employee, or education development initiatives. The award acknowledges how the group positively contributes beyond its core commercial activities.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Derick Reinhardt

This recognises founder, Derick Reinhardt, as a prestigious individual with an exceptional career and lasting contribution to the chrome and ferrochrome industry. The award honours his decades of dedication, leadership, integrity, innovation and service, as well as a commitment to mentoring others and advancing the industry.

For the group, the recognition carries particular significance for Derick Reinhardt, who passed away in June 2026, at the age of 73. He started Reinhardt Transport Group in 1982 with a single truck and a vision for building a sustainable, reliable transport business. Over more than four decades, he grew the company into a significant Southern African logistics operation, embracing technology and innovation while placing strong emphasis on people and continuous improvement.

“Having Derick recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award makes the evening especially meaningful. He built the foundations of this business and his influence is still very much part of who we are today. It is an enormous honour for Reinhardt Transport Group to receive these three awards, particularly at a time when we are reflecting on our legacy.”
