MAN Truck & Bus SA announced the market release of its next‑generation D26 Efficiency engine platform for all heavy‑duty models, paired with a comprehensive driveline and safety upgrades.

Headlining the launch is the MAN TGX 26.520 truck tractor, the new 6x4 flagship engineered to deliver class‑leading tractive performance with materially lower fuel consumption and an expanded suite of active safety systems.
A new engine generation, standardised across the range
At the heart of the refresh is MAN’s updated D26 Efficiency engine, a 12.4‑litre inline‑six with common‑rail injection, a robust single‑stage turbocharger, and the EVBec high‑performance engine brake. The South African range consolidates previous power variants into three calibrated ratings - 400, 440 and 520 hp - with maximum torque up to 2,600 Nm available from as low as 930 rpm.
Quantified efficiency gains for real‑world operations
The D26 Efficiency driveline delivers significant fuel savings versus the previous generation. Up to 3% lower fuel consumption in Euro 5 applications, attributed to the new engine, the MAN TipMatic gearbox with SmartShifting and upshift support, and the new hypoid rear axle family.
The Euro 2 boasts up to 6% lower fuel consumption, driven by the same package and control‑system enhancements.
Further reductions are achievable with a suite of options: EfficientRoll, high‑performance final drive ratios, enhanced aerodynamic package comprising of: A‑pillar cladding, door‑gap closures, extended roof‑spoiler, side‑flap extensions, and the MAN OptiView digital mirror‑cam system, all of which can together further reduce drag and parasitic losses depending on the vehicle’s intended application.
EfficienctCruise software with predictive function and topography based gear changes will also be rolled out to further increase fuel savings.

TGX 26.520 6x4 BL SA — the new flagship
The introduction of the TGX 26.520 marks the first step in MAN Truck & Bus SA’s phased rollout of the new D26 Efficiency technology. The wide range of upgrades to the new generation elevates the TGX 26.520 to the forefront of long-haul transport performance in Southern Africa.
Throughout 2026, the upgraded engine and driveline will be progressively integrated across the entire TGS and TGX product portfolio, ensuring a unified, modernised range with improved efficiency, performance and safety. This strategic transition standardises MAN’s offering in the region and reinforces the brand’s commitment to long-term fleet value, lower total cost of ownership and continued operational reliability for customers across all transport segments.
